Arsenal and Liverpool to battle for Stade Rennes French star

Transfer

Martin Terrier of Stade Rennes is allegedly available this summer, and Arsenal and Liverpool are prepared to battle for his services.

Mikel Arteta‘s team has been pursuing Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk this month to provide depth and cover across their forward line, and the Gunners’ desire to sign an attacker has been widely publicized.

They have not yet agreed on a transfer fee with the Ukrainian team, despite Foot Mercato‘s suggestion that the two teams are getting closer to a €100 million deal for the teenage winger.

In contrast, Liverpool already had an attacker in January when they acquired long-time target Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven to add to their lineup of forward options.

But according to Media Foot, Terrier’s summer availability has been sought after by both teams.

Terrier to the Premier League ?

The Frenchman had previously been linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, but the deal never happened since Spurs signed Richarlison, a Brazilian international.

Due to his remarkable scoring record at Rennes, he is still a player of significant interest in the Premier League. The 25-year-old scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 the previous campaign and has nine goals in 16 games this campaign. But due to an ACL injury he sustained in early January, which will keep him out until the start of the 2023–24 season, he won’t get the chance to add to that total.

Nevertheless, according to Media Foot, Liverpool and Arsenal have asked if a transfer for Terrier is possible given Rennes’ €50 million asking price.

It does seem doubtful that Terrier will sign with either club, especially given his injury, while Mudryk appears to be on the verge of joining Arsenal, and Gakpo has joined Liverpool to add to their abundance in the offensive department.

Terrier also prefers to play as an inside forward on the left, making him an odd transfer target given that Mudryk will likely replace Gabriel Martinelli in that position at Arsenal and that Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez can all play there for Liverpool.

Both teams are far more in need of a right-sided player, who should be sought out in January or the summer.
