Brazilian Gerson rejoins Flamengo from Marseille

Transfer

Flamengo and Olympique de Marseille have made official announcements confirming that offensive midfielder Gerson from Brazil has returned to Flamengo.

The attacker signed a contract keeping him with the Brazilian club until 2026, according to Fabrizio Romano’s report from a few days ago. Marseille received roughly €20 million in additions for the transfer.

For an alleged €25 million, Gerson relocated to Marseille in the summer of 2021. The Brazilian was a stalwart in Marseille’s midfield during his first season at the Orange Vélodrome, making 48 appearances across all competitions and tallying 11 goals along the way.

However, Gerson hasn’t had regular playing time in Ligue 1 or Europe ever since Igor Tudor joined the team. Sources contacted by Get French Football News in the beginning of November claimed that negotiations had taken place between Marseille, the player, and his old team Flamengo.

While it is yet unknown how much of the transfer fee makes up for Marseille’s initial 2021 acquisition, the Olympians still owes €5 million from the original transfer, but with his return to Flamengo being complete, the fee will be erased and the club will get a total of €20 million.
