Champions League: Manchester United and Ajax are out of the UCL

London: Manchester United are out of the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday after losing to Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid.

Ralf Rangnik’s side lost 1-0 in the second leg after holding Atletico to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the last 16. Atletico Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals with an overall 2-1 victory.

Anthony Elanga, who scored for United at Atletico Madrid’s home ground, missed a golden opportunity on Tuesday. He could not make good use of Bruno Fernandes’s pass.

Renan Lodi’s goal in the 41st minute was enough for Atletico to win. This is Lodi’s first goal in the Champions League. This is the second time in the last three seasons that Atletico Madrid have reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

In the 13th minute, Atletico goalkeeper John Oblak thwarted Elanga’s shot. United goalkeeper David de Gea saved a shot from 25 yards out by Atletico’s Rodrigo de Paul.

Ajax are also out of the Champions League. Ajax lost 1-0 to Benfica.

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, Benfica entered the quarterfinals with an overall 3-2 victory.
