A remarkable last-second save by Martinez prevented French attacker Randal Kolo Muani from scoring what would have been the game-winning goal in what was a tantalizing battle of the titans in the final.
Kingsley Coman’s attempt was stopped from scoring in the following penalty shootout by a tremendous save by Martinez. Following their 4-2 triumph in the World Cup shootout, Argentina.
Martinez received the Golden Glove award for being the best goalkeeper of the competition during the trophy presentation.
Martinez took his trophy and put it towards his crotch while waving at the spectators. Fans responded to his celebration straight away.
Martinez has now given an explanation for why he was celebrating.
“I did it because the French booed me,” he claimed. With me, pride does not work.”
Martinez remarked of Argentina’s victory: “We endured a lot. We believed we had them under control, but they managed to reappear. The game was quite challenging. We were destined to suffer.”
