Argentina defeated France in the World Cup final, and Emiliano Martinez was once again the shootout hero.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper had nothing to do for the whole final, as Argentina lead 2-0 after the first half due to goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.
Kylian Mbappe scored from the spot to give France a goal back, but Martinez was soon plucking the ball out of his net.
A little under two minutes later, Martinez had given up again.
Marcus Thuram and Mbappe exchanged passes before Mbappe volleyed the ball into the goal.
Extra time was used…
In the 108th minute, Messi felt he had sealed the victory for his nation when he bundled the ball past Hugo Lloris.
But the greatest World Cup final ever didn’t end there.
There was still time for Mbappe to score another penalty and advance past Martinez a third time.
Martinez’s last-second stop against Muani
In the third minute of second half injury time in extra time, there was still drama when Martinez had to make a spectacular stop from Kolo Muani.
The scene was so prepared for Martinez.
Doesn’t he just adore being punished?
And he was at the top of his game.
Aurélien Tchouaméni, a French midfielder, stepped forward, and the shot-stopper was seen shoving the ball away from him.
Martinez’s antics earned him a booking, but they were effective because Real Madrid’s player pulled the ball wide.
France missed again in the shootout after Martinez had stopped Kingsley Coman.
Throughout the shootout, Martinez was also observed dancing, clearly aware that his shithouse tactics were effective.
Following Argentina’s victory in the shootout, Martinez still had time for additional attention-seeking behavior.
Martinez received the Golden Glove award for being the best goalie in the competition, and his reaction when he held the trophy was… interesting.
Martinez performed a “Diego Simeone cojones” celebration by grabbing the trophy and shoving it into his groin.
