Felix gets sent off in his Chelsea debut

Premier League

In his Chelsea debut, Joao Felix was sent off for a careless tackle on Kenny Tete of Fulham during Thursday’s Premier League match.

In the 58th minute at Craven Cottage, Felix was sent off after kicking Tete in the shin. Just 24 hours after joining Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the season, the 23-year-old made his Chelsea debut. Felix made an excellent first impression, producing a number of dangerous chances, but his moment of insanity resulted in his ejection with the score tied at 1-1.

The visitors went on to lose the game 2-1 as a result of Fulham taking use of their man advantage, but his red card proved to be a turning point in the game. Graham Potter, the under-fire Chelsea manager, had anticipated that Felix’s addition would help his floundering team, which is now occupying the 10th spot in the Premier League.

Potter said to BT Sport just before kickoff at Fulham that “it’s a combination of a number of factors, his training, the quality he has and the squad needs a little bit of boost in terms of the potential he has.” He is a self-assured child who only wants to play. He must simply be himself. Since he hasn’t spent much time with the players, all he needs to do is express himself. With a transfer fee of 126 million euros from Benfica to Atletico in 2019, Felix became one of the most expensive players in history.

In 131 games for the team, he has tallied 34 goals, helping the team win La Liga in 2021. Felix scored in the 3-2 group-stage win over Ghana as Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar last month.
