Fred can leave Manchester United for £30m

Despite Manchester United initiating a 12-month extension on his contract, FRED is a startling name on PSG’s hit list.

The Brazilian‘s contract was due to expire next summer, but the club took action earlier this week to prevent him from departing on his own own.

However, the French giants, who have long admired him and want him to strengthen their engine room, are unfazed.

United wouldn’t consider doing business for anything less than £30 million, but ultra-wealthy PSG won’t be deterred by that price.

A man who has battled to secure a regular spot at Old Trafford is expected to be drawn to the opportunity to join international teammates Neymar and Marquinhos in the French capital.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, is still a huge supporter of Fred and is impressed by his attitude despite his few starts.

But ever since he was brought to Old Trafford for £54 million from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, the midfielder has struggled to maintain a spot under different Old Trafford managers.

Fred had hoped that Casemiro, his Brazilian teammate who cost United £70 million, would anchor the midfield like they do frequently for their nation.

However, Fred has only started four Premier League games this season because Ten Hag has been playing Casemiro alongside Christian Eriksen.

He will turn 30 in March, and he is aware that PSG, who has previously acquired United midfielders, will give him a better chance of consistent starts.

When Ander Herrera’s contract ended three years prior, they followed a similar strategy to sign him on a free transfer.

The asking price won’t deter the French champions, but United moved quickly to ensure they could at least command a fee should Fred decide he wants out.

These three players, who have not yet signed new contracts, Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, and Luke Shaw, have also just received comparable 12-month extensions.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG, has publicly stated his desire to sign Rashford, indicating the club’s long-standing interest in him.

United, however, has no intention of losing a striker who manager Ten Hag views as the most important player in his plans for rebuilding, even though they would be open to negotiations over Fred at the right price.
