French player Karim Benzema has announced his retirement from international football.
Benzema, who is the main forward of the Spanish club Real Madrid, has decided to retire from international football.
He was left out of the World Cup team after suffering an injury during the tournament. Some expected him to return to the field in Sunday’s final. He was seen in a friendly match played by Real Madrid.
After being thrown out of the team by head coach Didier Deschamps, Benzema rejected the opportunity to return to Qatar.
The day after France lost in the World Cup final, Benzema announced his retirement from international football through social media.
Deschamps plans to sit down with the French Football Association to discuss a new destination. But Benzema announced his retirement before that. It is believed that the relationship between coach Deschamps and Benzema is not good in French football.
Benzema has played 97 times for France and scored 37 goals. He made his debut with the national team 15 years ago.
