Maximilian Wober, an Austrian defender, has joined Leeds United on a four-and-a-half-year agreement from Red Bull Salzburg.

The 24-year-old earned 125 appearances while playing for Salzburg under Whites boss Jesse Marsch.

Wober, who can play left-back or center back, is the Leed United’s first acquisition of the January transfer period.

He might make his FA Cup debut against Cardiff City on Sunday.

When Wober completed a 10.5 million euro transfer from Ajax to Salzburg in August 2019, he set a new record for the most expensive signing in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Wober has won the Austrian League and Cup double three times in a row during the past three and a half years at the Red Bull Arena.

Who is Maximilian Wober?

Maximilian Wöber, an Austrian professional football player who competes for Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga and the Austrian national team, was born on February 4, 1998.

Wöber, a Vienna native, began playing football with the youth squads of Rapid Wien.

Wöber was selected for Rapid Wien‘s first team in 2015. He made his senior team debut on February 25, 2016, against Valencia at Ernst-Happel-Stadion in the Round of 32 of the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League. Coach Zoran Barisic started him for the entire match.

Wöber and Dutch team Ajax agreed to a four-year deal in August 2017. Rapid Wien received a €7.5 million transfer fee from the club.

Wöber signed a contract with Sevilla of the Spanish La Liga on January 11, 2019, for a reported fee of €10.5 million. He initially joined on loan with a mandatory buyout clause, and his contract was extended to 2023. On January 26, 2019, he started his first game in a 5-0 victory over Levante.

The most expensive player in the Austrian Bundesliga, Wöber signed a five-year deal with Austrian club FC Red Bull Salzburg on August 13 for a reported sum of €12 million.
