Official: Chelsea sign Joao Felix

Transfer

Joao Felix, a top player for Atletico Madrid, has been signed by Chelsea. The Portuguese player signs a loan agreement with the London club that will last through the 2022–23 campaign.

We have all been waiting for this information: Joao Felix is now a member of the Chelsea team. On Wednesday, the London club posted on their social media accounts that they had signed the Atletico Madrid player.

It follows mounting rumors about the transfer, since Diego Simeone, the player’s manager, has recently grown less fond of the player. He will now finish the season at Chelsea, where he will try to get more playing time for a team that is currently having a bad run of form. Tuesday, he took a trip to London to finish the medical and formally sign with the team.

According to Fabrizio Romano, The Blues will cover his salary for the remainder of the campaign and will also pay his parent club Atletico Madrid €11 million as compensation.

This agreement is only valid for the remaining games of the current season; after the 2022–23 campaign is over, Joao is expected to rejoin the Madrid squad.

With just one victory in their previous seven games across all competitions, Graham Potter will be hoping to make an instant difference for the team, which is currently sitting in 10th position in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old Portuguese star was expected to be Atletico’s next big thing, and while he has occasionally delivered—scoring 25 goals in 96 games overall—the manager Diego Simeone’s decision to bench the player recently may have been the catalyst for the player’s decision to leave in search of more frequently playing first-team football.

The Spanish powerhouses are said to already have a replacement in mind, Memphis Depay of Barcelona, who is rumored to be just a hair away from joining.
