Pablo Mari, an Arsenal defender who was stabbed in an Italian supermarket two months ago, has resumed training with his loan team, Monza.

At Milan’s Niguarda hospital, the 29-year-old underwent surgery to rebuild two torn muscles in his back.

Mari, who transferred from Brazilian club Flamengo to Arsenal in January 2020, claimed he was “fortunate” to have avoided serious injuries.

The defender wrote on Twitter: “rejoining the group. in stages.”

Luis Fernando Ruggieri, a 47-year-old supermarket worker, was killed in the event in Milan in October. Along with Mari, four other customers also sustained injuries.

Before beginning the year on loan with Udinese, Mari played 19 times for the Gunners. In August, he was loaned to Monza, which had just received promotion.
