Premier League: Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 to close the gap

London: Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 to close the gap on English Premier League top club Manchester City to one point on Wednesday.

City have 69 points from 29 games, while second-placed Liverpool have 68 points from the same number of game. Third-placed Chelsea have 59 points, fourth-placed Arsenal gave 51 points and fifth-placed Manchester United have 50 points.

This week, the top team City was held to a goalless draw with Crystal Palace. Jurgen Klopp’s team managed to take advantage of that. Arsenal have played two games less than the top three teams.

Diego Jota’s goal in the 54th minute gave Liverpool the lead. Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 62nd minute.

Until a few weeks ago, City had a 14-point lead at the top. At the time, Liverpool had played two games less than City. At the end of 29 games, Liverpool reduced the distance to one point.

Liverpool will rise to the top spot, for a while, if they beat Watford in the next game of the league.
