Romeo Beckham has made an astonishing loan move from his father’s MLS team Inter Miami to Premier League club Brentford.

At the conclusion of the previous MLS season, David’s son trained with the Premier League team.

Romeo will now officially join Brentford’s B team on loan for the remainder of the year.

Following the 20-year-training old’s with Brentford’s B squad at the conclusion of the previous MLS season, this is the most unexpected development to yet.

The midfielder will assist Neil MacFarlane’s team as they compete for the Premier League Cup and play matches abroad thanks to the move, which is subject to international clearance.

After joining Brentford Romeo Beckham said:

‘I’m very proud and very happy to be here.’

‘It was a fun season (in the USA) and there were a lot of ups and downs but I’m excited to come here and see what I can do.

‘I came here at the start to keep fit during the off season. The chance then came to come on loan here and I’ve never been so excited.

‘They’ve (MacFarlane and assistant coach Sam Saunders) helped me massively over the last couple of months and I’m excited to see what else they can help me with to really progress in football.

‘If you look at Brentford as a club, it’s very positive and it’s a club that is on the rise very quickly. I’m very grateful to be here.’

Similarly MacFarlane added:

“We’ve been absolutely delighted with Romeo since he arrived with us.

“He came to us from Inter Miami with the aim of working with us during their close season. Romeo has applied himself unbelievably well, he’s really bought into the culture and the group which he has become a big part of.

“I love his standards and the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.

“He’s been able to get fitter and fitter during his time with us and it leaves him in a good place to now step forward having joined us on loan.

Romeo made the decision to leave the game as a result, much to Beckham Snr’s dismay.

Beckham said:

‘The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn’t want to play football anymore.’

‘Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too. He’s got other passions and I like that.’

In 2020, he decided to return to football after a five-year break, signing a contract with his father’s Inter Miami team in September of that year, after declaring his intention to pursue tennis as a professional career and practicing with Andy Murray.

He re-entered the game with Inter’s reserve team, Fort Lauderdale, and has since impressed after recording three assists in a single match while manning the right side, where his father David is renowned for excelling for Manchester United and England.

His outstanding play continued throughout the summer, when he even more admirably followed in his father’s footstep by launching an incredible free-kick while representing Inter Miami’s reserve team.

Beckham Snr. expressed his admiration for his son’s achievement by writing on social media:

‘Well done mate so proud. First goal in a Miami shirt.’

Romeo Beckham responded with:

‘Love you Dad, that was for you.’

He quickly experienced his first taste of action while wearing an Inter Miami jersey when he was introduced as a substitute in a 6-0 thrashing by Barcelona during a summertime friendly.

After entering the game in the 86th minute, the 20-year-old had little impact on how it was going.
