Salernitana hold Inter as Candreva strikes late

Serie A

After Robin Gosens’ sixth-minute goal to tie the game, there was nothing on when former Inter winger Candreva lined up a cross that he miskicked and sent flying over the head of confused Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana.

With a fifth consecutive draw, Candreva’s fortunate goal from the right flank lifted Salernitana, the hosts, 10 points above the drop zone. It also extended their unbeaten run to six games.

According to Candreva to “DAZN,” “It was a cross for my teammates, which every now and then can go in with a little luck.”

“We were playing a pretty talented team with fantastic players and I believe we played extremely well in the second half. We are aware that we still need to earn points, but we might be encouraged by the outcomes. After a happy Easter, we’ll start to consider Torino.”

In a battle for a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season, Inter is 20 points behind league leaders Napoli, who are playing at Lecce in the second of three Good Friday games. They have lost six straight games in all competitions and are having trouble scoring goals when they go to Benfica on Tuesday.

Lukaku off target

Prior to their home match against out-of-shape Empoli in Friday’s late game, Simone Inzaghi’s team is tied on 51 points with their local rivals AC Milan, who are in third. Roma can eliminate Inter from the top four with a victory at Torino on Saturday. They are behind Inter by one point.

Romelu Lukaku had two wonderful opportunities in each half that he could have taken advantage of, and Inter would have been more securely up in the final seconds.

In the first half, Lukaku, who was subjected to racial taunts from Juventus supporters the previous evening, headed a clear opportunity straight at Guillermo Ochoa. In the 65th minute, Ochoa miraculously scooped a diving header from inside the six-yard box onto the bar before brilliantly stopping Stefan De Vrij on the rebound.

Long-time Prior to Lukaku’s error, Mexico’s goalkeeper Ochoa made excellent saves on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Denzel Dumfries. This comes after Lukaku’s incredible miss in last week’s home loss to Fiorentina.

With 13 minutes remaining, Boulaye Dia nearly took advantage of Ochoa’s excellent goalkeeping by hitting the woodwork for the home team. Candreva flicked his foot at the ball and set off a frenzied celebration on the field and in the stands after Lautaro Martinez wasted yet another chance after being passed through on goal and given a clear shot at goal.
