The Argentines revealed on social media that Southampton of the Premier League had acquired midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Racing Club for 13.65 million euros.
After Lautaro Martinez, who cost Inter Milan 25 million euros in 2018, the 20-year-old midfielder represents the second-most costly sale in Racing’s history. A four and a half year contract has been signed by him.
There is a 15% sell-on clause included in the cost.
Before departing for Britain to undergo a medical and sign his contract, Alcaraz told “TyC Sports” in Argentina, “I don’t know if now is the moment to go or not; it was determined by the clubs.”
Because Racing is my home and because of how the fans make you feel, I know I’ll miss it dearly. He participated in 83 games with Racing, contributing six assists and 13 goals.
Following a terrible run of six straight league losses, Southampton is currently dead last in the Premier League.
At the start of that run, they fired Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuettl, but Nathan Jones, who took over, has been unable to reverse the damage.
